but we are going to talk babes, some expected, some not.
Do you see our first? It's that little feline sitting on the platform watching a baby robin in the lawn. I was waiting for him to go into stalk-mode, and was wondering why he was being so patient, and still in the upright position rather than hiding.
Lo and behold, it was because he was not alone. Nor was I...he is not just one kitten on the lurch, but
4, yes, not one but four kittens are living right under my nose in the barn. We use the barn for storage of the lawn mower, lumber, gardening supplies, more lumber, Christmas lawn deer, and 3-4 four-wheelers, my wheel borrow, antiques too many and my potting bench. It was not meant for mama cats to bear their young. They must feel it is a safe haven, for this is the second summer we have had a cat family take up residence. They sure are cute tho., so how can I possibly ask them to leave. Had I known they were here, I would have tamed them as babies for the GrandLoves to cherish. They are already about 7-8 weeks old and are as wild as their mother.
Baby sister to the little buck fawn that was unfortunately smucked on the highway a couple weeks ago, was grazing amongst the round bales in the field this morning. She's a cutie. As soon as she saw me, she started doing the dosey-doe around the bales like they were dance partners.
The feeders were busy as this youngster, a Northern 3-toed Woodpecker, kept hopping from one feeder to the next. He's a quiet fella, and really quite friendly. They usually are, until they learn more of the signs of danger, like a cat lurking about or a gal with a camera in hand sneaking closer and closer.
At the farm, there was a family of young partridge skipping from branch to branch in this thicket by the pond. My brother and I counted at least 4 of them. Already, they know when to take flight.
The partridge and the fawns won't last long at the farm, sad to say. There is a pack of wolves hunting daily in Mom's woods. This track was from within the hour Mom had returned from town until I had arrived at 9:30 in the morning. They obviously are doing a lot of hunting in broad daylight. It's scary, as Mom often will walk down her 1/4 mile driveway to get her mail without protection.
So it goes, in our neck of the woods.

Sounds like the panto Puss in Boots.
Soooooo cute arn't they.
Bless your heart too Dar. Thanks for showing us some of the animals you get to see.
Cuties, all of them. Something needs to be done about those wolves for everyone's safety. Your Mom should have some kind of protection with her when she goes to the mailbox. May she be safe. Helen
Such cute babies. I won't even tell my hubby that you also have wolves, he will surely be moving in with ya! We have a pair of fawns that graze in our yard every day. They let me get closer and closer every day to take their pic. So cute!
Hi Dar, You have lots of 'babes' around your area. Cute little barn cats--but they are wild I'm sure.... That little fawn is precious... It grieves me to know that she probably won't make it --due to the pack of wolves...
Tell your Mom to be careful when she walks to the mailbox... Maybe she needs some kind of mace or something...There is something you can spray on bears. Maybe there is something for wolves.
Hugs,
Betsy
oh my what a tale you've told
I love the kittens ..too bad they have to live the life of feral cats....oh well
wolf? don't want to be anywhere near him
Ain't wanting to know about Wolves!
I think the wrod has been apssed around the Feline community, 'Dar is easy!' No rent and no hastle! Easy livin'.
I love the way you describe your territory and the flora and fauna you describe and see. (I read those words in the encyclopedia in school)
Love from NC, tomorrow we head off to See the Wizard!
Lovely that these little wild ones feel at home with you. The wolf I am not so sure about, - our son uses a 'bear banger' for bears, - perhaps they would frighten wolves away too.
lots of sweet happenings at your house/yard. all oh so cute. great pictures. thanks...dogwood
Loved seeing all the wonderful animals present- you got a great picture of the woodpecker. Your feral kittens are very cute too.
Thanks for sharing all the beautiful animals in your neck of the woods.
Regards,
Anna
It was all cute until the last one...good grief that's scary.
Dar, you make me wish I could come and spend a summer with you...just so I could experience real country living. But I don't know...you had a bear on your deck last winter, and now wolves prowling around...LOL! Love your posts!
Hey Dar~ What cute kittens. Maybe with persistence your grandkids can coax them out.
Wolves? Yikes! Hope your Mama is careful!
I love all the babies and tales of babies. Life renew with each new baby. They're the miracles that always makes me smile. Thanks for sharing!
:)
Those are some sweet friends!
Thanks for identifying the little bird for me, how cool! Don't worry about the name mix up :).
Jacquelyn mentioned your blog to me, am anxious to explore and see more of it!
We rescued a litter of wild kittens 12 years ago and kept three of them. They provide so much love and affection. You can see many picture of them in my blog and one on my header.
Dar: Interesting post of the babies, sorry to hear about the wolves. They can do a lot of harm.
awwww ~ kittens!
now why is it that kittens are cute even when the camera captures their backside???
