Yes, Good Eats

I have so many great magazines, so I have challenged myself to try at least one recipe from each that I breeze through this fall and winter.  This time, thanks to a 2008 Country Home edition,   I baked today.

I tried something new to me~~~
I baked Scones for the first time ever.
I apologize for not having a picture of the finished product but they really did turn out like the ones above, Just ask my Mom.  I thought for sure Bill would love these, I did! but he didn't.  Not to make excuses for him, but he just never liked me trying new recipes out on his ' delicate ' palate~~~so I took the rest of them to the farm to share with my Mom....she said to tell Bill that she was glad he didn't care for the scones, because she Loved them.   I made sure to thank him for her.... Maybe, just maybe Bill didn't care for them because he doesn't care for any texture resembling a baking powder biscuit.   What's wrong with that man?  Every one loves biscuits!
Yes, Good Eats!

Click on the photo for an enlarged view of the recipe.
This recipe turned out better than I could have dreamed.  The bacon came from the pig our neighbor raised for us to share with Bill's brother.  It sure added  to the Bacon Black Pepper Scones fantastic flavor.  That was breakfast with eggs.

For ' Lupper,'  ( that's lunch and supper ),  I made soup.
This time it was  Venison Vegetable with Egg Dumplings

The best thing about this particular soup was that everything came off the land.  The venison was harvested and canned during last falls deer season and all of the vegetables, green beans, tomatoes, potatoes, celery, yellow wax beans, Buttercup Squash, onions and peppers, all came this season's garden.  The eggs for the dumplings came from Mom's productive chickens.

Yes, Good Eats!   and healthy too!
OOPS, I lied~~the flour, salt and pepper came from the store, but yet, from Someones gardens.

It's funny how so many little kids today, think that EVERYTHING
comes from the store....sad, isn't it?
To end the day, Chocolate Snicker Cake with Chocolate Glaze.
Who could ask for anything more?
Putting the glaze on while the cake was still hot sure did make the cake extra moist.   Yes, Good Eats!
And the rest remains tight around our waists~
but it was worth every delicious bite.

Time to hit the hay,
Pray,
And sleep, sleep, sleep!

Thanks for stopping by.  I love hearing from you.
Blessings

I thought, 'Maybe Sherry won't see the chocolate!' Then I said 'fat chance' to my self.

Bill is all right, you just trained him wrong! LOL only have scones when we are out. Would never attempt them at home. I bet yours were good, Bill just didn't want to admit it cause it wasn't his idea. LOL

BUT OHHHH, the Venison Veggie soup with egg dumplings sounds wonderful. I am glad I am not hungry now.
Love you girl,
Sherry & Jack (Sherry will be along in the morn)

Are you sure you're my sister? I cannot believe this is the first time you ever baked scones! I make them often ... just this morning in fact; I improvised a recipe and made cranberry-date molasses scones. They were GREAT!
I remember last year at a farmers market a woman was selling some and had samples, she almost fell over when I told her I bake them a lot. She said a lot of people had never tried them before.

I'm with Cheryl on this one ~ you never made scones? What! Are you related to us?? I make them all the time too. Next time you're over remind me to show you the 1001 Muffins cookbook and all the scone recipes in it:) Seriously, you never made them? I'm still baffled by that.

Oh, I make scones all the time. My favourite are apple cranberry. I use buttermilk as the liquid. I think buttermilk makes baking better. Can't imagine anyone not liking scones. My fruit ones are topped with strawberry jam and whipped cream or creme fraiche. So yummy. I make them for ladies' teas but my D sure wasn't opposed to them.
