Fading Fast

The gorgeous colors have faded,

Faded fast this fall~

 The pumpkins in the window are now few,

The stack in the barn window has been picked over by many,
Baby Pumpkins on the bench are dwindling, 
Most adding color to doorways, barrels and tables. 
Some have even been chosen for Jack-o-Lanterns already,
Saved for that day, coming too soon.

 Every morning has been covering the fields and
Spotting the pumpkins with blankets of frost~
It is getting cold outside.  
Time to start a wood fire to warm my bones.

So it goes in the North Woods, as so many of us know.
Maybe just one more cup of hot chocolate~~~
And maybe, a sliver of that Buttercup Squash Pie.
