A Blind Millisecond

Pizza Anyone?
After an early supper of homemade pizza loaded with pepperoni, breakfast sausage, onions, red and green peppers, spinach, pizza sauce, basil and oregano, topped with a handful of mixed cheese, our evening of excitement had just begun.
We had noticed by the tree next to our driveway, that the Black Cherries wer hanging, ready for picking.
First we took a ride up the drive to the cabin to strip what we could from an easy access tree along the road, and more within the area.
Our bucket full, we decided to gather more at home if we need them to finish a batch of jelly, all thanks to God's Garden of Plenty.
.
On the drive home, as we came over the rise in the road to our driveway off the highway, the sun was smack-dab in our eyes. We could barely see that the highway was blocked just ahead, less than 1/4 mile away, with what looked like an accident and one police car.

Immediately, we thought of our son, praying it was not him on the Ranger. He's been going back and forth each day to check his trail camera back by the cabin land.
We decided to drive down to the corner and see what happened.
We were met by a fella turning traffic back, because the highway was, indeed, impassable, so we could not even get just beyond the corner where the boys archery shop and our son's home is.
We did find out that the vehicle that was in the accident, was NOT our son's, and he, in fact, was out fishing and not even aware of the accident.

The vehicle involved, had hit the back of a load of hay. The tractor was pulling a kicker bailer with the full hay wagon behind, when the sun was directly in the auto drivers eyes. She hit the back of the wagon and didn't yet know what really happened until the driver of the tractor was banging on her window, very irate about her equipment being piled up on the highway.

Not once, did she, the tractor driver, ask the auto driver if everyone was alright. There were 2 other passengers in the vehicle, the fella's legs in the passenger side, were pinned, the 2 yr. old in the back car seat was screaming and bleeding, having bitten her tongue and burned her shoulders from the seatbelt from the impact.

Adrenalin kicked in and the dad of the vehicle got his legs free, the driver finally managed to get the door open, pushing past the irate tractor driver, to get to her daughter in the back seat. The front of the car was totaled, sitting in their laps, but they still managed to get to their frightened child.

Click to enlarge~ as this photo was taken from a quarter mile away with the sun in my eyes. Just around the bend beyond the powerlines is where our son's place is. The hay wagon is to the right, the car to the left of the center truck, with rescue vehicles, fire dept., etc, beyond.
We are grateful to God that this accident did not involve our son but we just came aware this morning, that it was family in the crushed car.
Thanks to God above, they are alright, having been under observation for a few hours at the hospital. I spoke with them and tho, they are bruised and scratched, they are thanking God, also, for getting out of this pile-up, alive.

This morning gave us a beautiful sunrise, and now,
I have jelly to make!
God Bless You All and

My heart went out to the family in the car. Driving directly into the sunshine is sooooo dangerous ... and I do that frequently on Sunday mornings on my way to Church. So glad your son was not involved and I know it was a relief to you good folks. Great looking bucket of cherries!

Oh, wow. I'm glad no one was hurt. The glare can really make driving a bear sometimes.

Dar,
So glad to hear that your son was not in the accident- it is always such a scary thing when you know something terrible has happened.
My grandmother was killed in a car accident in 2003. She was driving out to avoid a large cutter who was cutting the grass in the ditch- the road was made a bit blind by the machine and she was broad sided by a truck who was speeding along the highway. The up side of it was that she was airlifted to a hospital where she was surrounded by her children when she passed on. It was hard losing her so suddenly and I still miss her 8 years later. She would have been 94 this year. The other good thing is that she was still driving and living independently on her farm at the age of 86. Had she survived she would not have been able to live so independently and would have had a long painful recovery. Old bones do not heal very quickly.

The cherries look like a berry that we call choke cherries- They are quite tart and are delicious as syrup. My gran often made syrup and jam out of a variety of wild berries on her farm- choke cherries, raspberries, saskatoons, blueberries, cranberries and huckleberries too. Lots of yummy berries aren't there. You used to be able to find wild strawberries but they are not easily found these days. My mom is a jam maker too - we are currently enjoying some strawberry rhubarb jam that she made earlier in the summer.
Happy canning Dar..
Regards,
Anna

What a day!!! Glad the folks were all right, the sun is a killer when directly in your eyes, we all have driven blind for a few seconds at times, just grateful something is not in the way.

Love the looks of the cherries, we must try some sometime. they look great. What we call wild cherries down here are about 1/4 inch in dia. No one eats them. They were used for ink at one time, lol.

Okay get to Jamming!@!!

Love you lady,

Glad all is well at your house ... hate hearing of accidents! That corner has had more than it's share. I was riding my bike the other day and through the tree lined trail the sun would occaisionally smack me in the eyes. Blinding for sure. Too windy for the hat but I did have on sunglasses and it still was blinding.
