I have always loved the deep orange color of the Ditch Lilies.
Just for contrast, I thought I'd show you the 9 p.m. sunset from after our last storm a couple nights ago, one last time.
So unbelievable, the deep orange of the sky.
What that same storm produced, was so much rain saturation, that the weeds in the garden went rampant, the lettuce shot up 4 inches overnight, and the clover in the lawn is so thick that it will take two mowings to clean it all up. That's what we get for taking off over the weekend, not that I'm complaining about the break.
My mystery plant is indeed, a tobacco. My son says to dry it and he and Dad will chew it up~~~sounds gross to me. I will let it flower, then, out it comes. I have no space in my garden for this invader. Besides, he's covering up quite a few tasty and healthier, I might add, carrots.
Look closely, or enlarge for a close-up, and you will see that even the bugs chew disgusting tobacco.
Even the early bird knows that, like this distant Bluejay that was making such a racket at my early 5 a.m. sunrise.
It sure was a pretty one tho.
I cannot get enough of the sunrises. I have to take them all in now, because once Bill retires from the sweatshop paper mill, we plan on 'sleeping in.'
With all of the heat of the day and the scattered showers and downpours, everything has been bursting, YES!
The Purple Top Turnips need at least a couple more days before we won't be able to resist them any longer.
The apple trees branches at the farm by Mom are heavy with apples that soon will need support, or they break under the apple weight or before the bears get the chance to destroy them. You can bet that Mama will be on watch with a high powered deterrent in hand.
The same goes for her Mulberries. The birds and the bear had watch their backs. Mama wants pie.
One last look at the vivid orange of the Ditch Lilies. These beauties are Mom's and have been behind the house for as long as I can remember.
They sure are showing off this year.
I hope you enjoyed the earlybird stroll.

the last ones are the ordinary "ditch" lilies..am I correct?
I love them all...what would we do without lilies?
Re: Suz, I rise at 4:45 a.m. but the morning sky was taken at 5 this morning. Thanks for correcting me on the lilies...Asiatics the first, Ditch, the last. My body is up early but not always the mind and memory...ha!

Isn't it amazing what a little (or a lot) of rain can do???? Tobacco, huh???? Goodness--where did that come from???? Maybe it floated up there from Virginia!!!! ha
Great sunrise pictures... Our Bluejays and Cardinals love to wake us up early also.
Hugs,
Betsy
Is that a Mullberry tree in you mom's back yard! We had one when I was a kid, I haven't had a mullberry in 45 years!!1

'love & hugs from afar'
When I was a kid and remember I am 81, we had 3 mulberry trees. By the time a meal was ready we would be purple from head to toe. Mom used to make mulberry cobbler. I love your pictures especially the tobacco one,.
Oh this is a great post I have never seen tobacco plants and the bugs are crazy. LOL
I love your photos. I can't wait till you can sleep in either but I do love your sunrise pics. B
Mornings are the best time. Everything is fresh and bright, and it's cool enough to go out and enjoy the place where you live. The ditch lilies are beautiful. I love to see them spot the countryside as I drive around.
Everything looks so wonderful.
Dar, m'lady: Such beautiful brilliant colors. They are all pretty, and I still prefer the ditch lily and For some reason I have not paid them any attention until this year. But we are not usually around here this time of the year.
I am still a boy at heart, those apples are just about the right size to fill my pockets. that and a wax paper wad filled with salt and I am a happy camper.
You rise too early for me. This retirment fits me now. Last week we were up early to fish, this morning it was no porblem to lseep in until 9. I am spoiled.
Love you girl,
Sherry & jack back in North carolina for awhile.
Flowers ans skies, you certainly capture Nature.
Oh my goodness, your garden is heavenly. Love those sky shots!
Dar, that mystery plant is a flower called Nicotiana, or flowering tobacco. I don't know if it is actually a true tobacco or not, but it is a marvelous reseeding annual. It will give the best smell ever right before dark on cool nights. It gets really big, it is like a jungle plant. I don't have any this year and I really regret not starting them. I hope you haven't pulled it yet, as it is the best smelling, sort of homely flower I know of!
Hope you enjoy it!
