In Search of the Daffodils

While searching for a glimmer of spring this morning, amongst all the bitter cold finding its way into the house, I was surprised.

I was surprised by all of the embroidery, crocheted lace and doilies, vintage fabrics, that I have decorated nooks and crannies with. Some were tag sale finds, some Grandparented to me, like the circular embroidered napkin and the daffodils, above. Thank You Grams B. So much is still in storage, but comes out when I get ready for a change.

My love of flowers is also everywhere, as well as the birds. Our hometown school team was always the Cardinals, until a merger just this past year that has really changed things. Who can even say Chequamegon Screaming Eagles...can hardly stand to write it...gads. I will always be a Cardinal Backer. (Sorry, getting off track again!)
How about some flying lessons, or, butterfly crochet. I also have a love of old books, such as the stack of books on learning to fly. The butterfly doily just had to fit amongst the flight patterns of planes, butterflies and birds.
Then there is ' cabinet ' lace,

doily protectors for stacks of dishes,
vintage Bible lace,
frilly bedskirts,

lampshade lace for a vintage lamp, picot edging on the embroidered curtains in the family room,
yesterdays lace tablecloth became todays lace curtain,
pinecone curtains in our country kitchen,
even reflective lace through the mirror.
Hey, I really must like this old stuff, all the lace, embroidery, crochet...
for, this old gal is even wearing it!
I thank you for weaving through this nonsense with me. It's a cold and windy day, I'm cold! No excuses, just one of those things that happens when the fingers do not want to create, but instead, ' just get by, ' and the eyes 'just want to look around,' at a few of my favorite things.

Come back again. I promise to have some interesting reading, One Of These Times! I love reading your comments, so Please Do Comment! I value your opinion:)

You have some beautiful pieces. I love the crocheted lace. I used to do alot of it. One time I even crocheted a bedspread. Lower Michigan is nice and sunny, sorry, not to rub it in.

Hi Dar, I love your embroidery items and doilies. In fact, I recently got a big box in the mail (right after Christmas) from a cousin --who had found some of the same kinds of things which had belonged to my mother. I now have those little doilies and table coverings all over my house. It was wonderful that someone found that box --which had been 'missing' for years. Mama died in 1991.

SO--I definitely love all of your goodies...

Have a great weekend.
Hugs,
Betsy

My mom used to have tons of doilies in her home. I think most were made by elder relatives. I don't have a one. :(

(How's that for serendipity? My word verification on your treasure post is "troved".) :)

-2.2F and it snowed all morning though the sun has come out now. An inside day.

My Mom used to crotchet and knit a lot ... I have tons of doilies and tablecloths myself. I can do both but rarely make anything as most of my friends don't really want the stuff ... it needs starching you see ... work! My sister ended up being the real knitter in the family so I had no need though I have made the odd project throughout my life.

My Grandmother used to crotchet, too. When I was growing up, everything had a lace doily under it. I wonder what happened to them all? Thanks for bringing back that memory.

I can never keep those things straight. Embroidering, Crocheting, knitting but I know sewing. Used to operate the tredle even when mama didn't want it treddled. hahaah

The work is beautiful though. I can remember when I wondered if the word Doily was a real word or one mama made up.

It is also amazing how the work is planned and completed the Knitting and Crocheting.

Enjoyed the pictures and narratives. I know Spring cannot spring too soon for you guys up north where the legislature can't figure what to do, on top of the rough weather.!

Loved the walk through your house. You have some beautiful things. I used to embroidery a lot but that was before spending so much time on my computer. My daughter recenty told me she still has a blue work shirt that I embroidered the names of all her classmates on.

What a lovely bunch of doilies! Especially the butterfly one. I have a drawer full that I change out, tomorrow I am going to look for the flower ones, maybe it will help make the rest of the winter go faster.

You have some absolutely beautiful vintage pieces of crochet work. It represents many many hours of sitting and straining the eyes and coordinating the work of mind, hand, and eyes. Lovely tour.

Gorgeous pieces of lace and doilies- My gran often had pieces in her house too draped on all the furniture and tables.
My mother must have some of them but somehow they never made it to my house though I do have a couple of lace tablecloths. I do love them- yours are all very pretty.
Thanks for sharing- I especially like your daffodils- I too am wishing for spring- it will be awhile before it comes to Alberta.
Warmest regards,
Anna

I would give anything to be able to do that, just one thing would be fine with me. Shaky hands would leave me out now but that is great work. We are supposed to get rain and may have. I didn't look out yet this morning and turn colder.
