Unwanted Company

We had snow. Sometime between 8:30 and 9:30 last night, we also had company come to our dining room door. He wandered all over the deck and helped himself to a few bird feeders. By the size of his footprints, lil guy is just a destructive teenager, probably a yearling that his mama booted out when this years cubs were born. He's hungry. Since there is not much for food as yet, the bear are hitting the bird feeders and the compost heaps.
The noise we heard on the deck last night was NOT the wind just blowing the welcome sign against the house. It was a bear having a snack from one of the feeders.
He bent the hook that held another wire feeder.
The wire feeder was crushed but I was able to save this one by taking the dents out enough for another round. Starting tonight, I guess we are back to bringing the feeders inside.
Do you see the suet feeder hanging from this branch?
Me either. I have looked all over for it but Mr. Bear must have carried it to the woods to get at his treat. It was half full of suet. The least he could have done was to leave the hook. It's missing too.
The 4" of snow we got last night left us know the size of our little intruder. By his tracks on the deck, he has to have looked into the dining room window and seen me curled up on the loveseat sipping tea and trying to blow my nose. I love our woodland friends, love to photograph them but do not particularly like the fact that they feel so comfortable around us humans that they practically come inside. This one very easily could have. I did not have the door locked yet and he easily could have slid his paw down onto the handle and come in for more treats. I shall heed the warning.
Have a Great Weekend and to all the Mom's out there, Happy Mothers Day.

Wow, wow, wow. I would have been scared to death. I would have loved to see a bear in the distance, but not that close!

Don't you just hate it when they take the whole feeder with them into the woods? That's happened to me here on more than one occasion. I remember one time Sam found my feeder down in the swamp way up about 30 feet in a cedar tree ~ all crushed and beyond repair.
So... wasn't Mom Nature on a roll these last couple days dropping all this snow on us in May... seriously... it's not funny... but we do need the moisture.
You picked good weather to have a spring time cold ~ it's too rainy and snowy to do anything outside. I was hoping to mow my lawn this weekend. HA ~ I don't see that happening! Make some cocoa and do some reading...(or I know a couple dresses that need alterations... hint hint) there's plenty of time for outside stuff.

Oh wow, a bear right up on your deck? I hear about them in people's backyards here where we live, but have never seen one myself.

Those stinkers! We had a bear take down a couple of our feeders last week and a suet feeder disappeared! Even though we live in town, they must not know the city limit lines. lol

I can't believe that you got snow. I won't even show my husband your intruder's tracks he will be whining again about moving up north. I just got him to stop drooling from the last pics of deer that you posted!

Happy Mother's Day to you sweet lady!

What an interesting life you live up there in the woods. And to top it off 4" of snow? Wow. I hope you are feeling better soon.
Have a Happy Mother's day and a great weekend (what is left of it).
TAke care, I hear even the little ones can be unfriendly at times. But then I just read it in books, I don't visit with them on the deck.
Love from down in windy, but sunny NC.

"Happy Mother's Day" DAR. The bear was probably reading your blog about the great cooking! ☻ So is the hunting season open? It might be a good idea to have a heavy calibre handgun close by. Just for safety's sake!

Do you go outside at night? Really I can't imagine a bear on my deck or for that matter snow in May. What an interesting area you live in. Have a nice day tomorrow.

I have heard a lot of that going on this spring believe it or not. Be careful outside. A hungry bear is liable to do anything.

You are such a great writer Dar that I'm sure you made this all up. You DID make it up, didn't you? You really DID NOT have a black bear on your deck, did you? OH MY GOSH! You DID, didn't you??? I would just die on the spot. Saturday before Easter my sister & her family were staying here for the weekend from out of town. She got up early to walk her dog, and scared away 8 deer in our driveway. And we are in the 'burbs! Hope you and your hubby are feeling a whole lot better real soon.
