It's that time again. It takes forever, it seems, for the springs of north central WI. to arrive. This year we have had unseasonably warm weather as early as March. Because of it, we have been tempted to put gardens in earlier, and even 'get ahead' of some of springs early clean-up. By mid-May, I have always started to feel safe in placing early seed crops in the ground, even tho it is still cool. One of my guides has been Mom's Apple Tree at the end of her garden. This picture is from May 15, 2007. I planted within the same week. Once again, Mom's tree was in full bloom last spring in mid May, so the early cool crops went in. My GrandLove Syrus is one of my little gardeners. Here he is busy, very meticulously placing his sugar snap pea seeds around the windmill. He even likes to weed the garden. Let's see how many years that lasts. This weekend, if we can breathe better, the early seeds will go into the ground that Bill dug up a month ago. Sugar Snaps, of course, will wait for Sy, but other seeds like the carrots, rutabaga, lettuce, spinach, beets, cauliflower and broccoli plants, maybe some brussel sprouts too. Potatoes should have already been in but due to the two of us being under the weather, it just did not happen yet. This weekend will be another busy one for sure. I hope your spring is shaping up the way you envisioned. Mine, in spite of warm early weather, is not. Several projects have been put on hold but will eventually get done. Life is too short to sweat over what we have no control over.
Have a great week everyone.
Hugs all around your world from our house to yours.

Boy oh boy, do I love that garden planting talk. Makes me feel good. To know someone will grow some tomatoes and stuff and hopefully sell it on the side of the road. Shirl will let me get a few tomatoes I know. Mark's garden is doing well.
I just make a mess of gardening. Once I mowed between the rows of my corn.
Syrus may continue, you are implanting in him a love for the earth, I think.
It's about time ya'll could garden, wink! It's hot, hot here already..flirting with the 90's.
When it comes to gardening ~ I'm in the planning stage of what should go where! Thats enough for now.
Happy Gardening! I put in 5 tomato plants about three weeks ago. They are looking good - full of blooms already. I love the garden and love seeing things grow but Frances is the real "green thumb" here. Hope your garden does well. That apple tree looks wonderfully promising!
What a family!
Hi Darla, You are right... None of us can do a darn thing about the weather.. As frustrating as it is, we can bitch about it forever---but still, it's going to do what it is going to do... That's just the way it is. We all plant things when we think they will be safe. Sometimes that works and sometimes not. We just do the best we can. Right?????
Glad you have a grandson interesting in gardening... That is SUPER.
Enjoy your spring ---and don't worry about doing it all.. Life goes on
Hugs,
Betsy

I read your INTERESTS from your profile to my husband and said"Who does that sound like?'
He laughed and said YOU.

Sweet Up-North Mornings...
Hope you soon feel well enough to enjoy the spring, - planing the garden and messing about in the earth!!
Sy is so cute and intent on his job. Liked what you said in my blog about making a table out of the big tree. I hadn't thought of that. You certainly have a talent
We had a warm early spring too. I think it confused a lot of flowers, or maybe it just confused me. It is a little colder again now. But the gardens are looking good so I won't complain.
That little fellow is a doll. Do not tell him I called him a doll. He is handsome. Our weather is not for the faint of heart. Will get my plants maybe Friday. Supposed to warm up.
