Goldfinches, New Loop, Firewood, Dilemma

Hasn't the weather been a treat? The trees sang all day today, with juncos, goldfinches, nuthatches, chickadees and song sparrows. After they saw that I was not a threat with my camera, they soon covered the ground under the feeders with their yellowing plumage. Birdwatching was my break-time.
Prior to that was a load of laundry, mopping the floors, cleaning the kitchen, washing a few windows, deciding what to make for supper after my run to the grocery store to restock shelves and the freezer. I made a quick coleslaw, called my brother to come for chops on the grill, afterall, it was his birthday today.
Stacy pulled in with his boat to spend the morning rebuilding the floor and making a facsimile bass boat out of a pleasure ski boat. I swear, he gets more like his Dad every day, always coming up with a better idea. It's all a good thing tho. He definitely knows the meaning of recycle.
We all had lunch together, of a sample plate of some of those wonderful WI. Cheeses, summer sausage and bean soup. As for that, it was a good thing we were working out of doors, the rest of the day.
Bill was heading back to the woods to continue cutting a loop road as he also cut dead wood out of the way, to make firewood out of. He asked me to bring the trailer and come for a load in about an hour. After lunch, I took that time as break-time. I've been needing more of those lately. Anyway, the hour has passed, so I head to the woods, taking a shortcut to also look for more rock for my last flower bed around the grove of trees in the front yard. I got all the way out to him, I see the tractor, hear it running, see the chainsaw sitting off to the side, but where was Bill? My heart skipped a beat as I jumped off the 4-wheeler, run to the tractor, and start looking and yelling for him. Up pops his head from behind the tractor as he was bent over, just chaining a log. I'll tell ya, I honestly thought I was going to find him layed out cold. His heart attack was 9 months ago, and I still cannot get a grip on it.
Bill said he saw me coming, but did not hear me yell. Then he looks at me and says, "Where's the trailer?" Well, damned if I didn't forget to bring the trailer. I actually caught myself laughing out loud on the return trip to get it. Of all the lame-brained things to do. I did find a few more rocks to bring home in the tractor bucket the next time out. He thinks I have rocks in my head.
Now we have a dilemma! What to do about that eye-sore water pipe from our new well in our front yard.
We do not spend time in the front because of the highway but, I do not like that pipe . Any suggestions? Bill is watering the new seeding he put in to bring the lawn back. At least we will have green grass again instead of dirt. Nothing with a deep root system can go there, so maybe tall annuals. Help me out. Suggest away. All I know for sure, it has to change, cause when Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.
Eric came to supper, helped sight-in my eliminator for me, we played some cards, visited the evening away, thus ending another fine day. We had 65 degrees today so I'm still smiling. This ol' gal is always happy when I can be outside instead of in.
Looking forward to more. Thanks for listening. I sure said a lot of nothing.
Blessings

I enjoyed your post so much, Dar. Thank you for sharing your day. I can only imagine how your heart must have felt when you didn't see Bill. Glad all was okay in the end. I had to chuckle about your forgetting to take the trailer for the wood...now THAT sounds like something I would do! ~wink~ Glad you had a good day.

It sounds like such a lovely day. Love all the UP pics too. It is so pretty up there any time of the year! I could see me forgetting the trailer too.

What about a birdbath that would slide over the pipe? You could remove it if need be and also draw more birds into the yard. Just have to watch out for those bears! I read that post and I feel for ya. My hubby drooled though. He went bear hunting for the first time last year and loved it. I really liked bear. Sorry if that offends.

I can't wait to see more pics of the woods! Keep em coming!

Hi Dar, Funny story about you forgetting the trailer... But taking an extra trip back gave you some more needed 'break time'... Right????? ha.... Glad Hubby is okay. I know that scared you... It would have me too...Men need US to take care of them!!!!

We have alot of those bright yellow finches also... I thought after the long winter that they would move on. But so far, NO... We have more of them than any other kind of bird this year.

I did hear my first Bluejay of the spring today... Didn't see him-but heard him. They always leave us in the winter. Don't know why!

Have a great Monday---and don't work too hard!!!
Hugs,
Betsy

Hi Dar..my first time checking out your blog..hope that is ok with you..so far I have enjoyed catching up with your entries...and God Bless that sweet Brianna...what a treasure!! and forgetting that trailer..that is something I would do LOLOL...and about that pipe in the yard...pile stones up around it...plant some creeping phlox in and around the stones...doesn't take much..cause it spreads like a weed...and it is so pretty in the spring and early summer...or put a fountain there...or a bird bath on top of the stones and phlox?? have fun...!!! God Bless...hugs from Ora in Kentucky

Great entry! Yes I love the way you compare the priorities when you fear something terrible and it is not what you envisioned. Then you can put the small stuff in perspective. Y'all sound very busy (understatement?)
Yes the weather has been great!

Well, if that don't beat all....I just responded to each of you individually and I lost the whole lot. My luck today. So, thanks again, for enjoying my day, from the birds, rocks, bloopers, lack of memory over a trailer, suggestions for the waterpipe and to let you all know...I am a person of 'lists', so if it ain't ON the List, it ain't happenin'
!!! More of Dar Days to come.
Bless You All
