In the middle of the night, the snow started to fall. It was not the predicted 1/2 inch per hour, but a gentle, floating, large flakes that filled the air, leaving behind not more than a couple of inches. ( If you click to enlarge the first 3 photos,
you can see the trees
and maybe, even the outline of the barn and it's white diamond doors. )
By morning the sky was bright blue, the birch trees were
white on white.
Boughs of the Balsam were blanketed with only an inch of snow, just enough to hide it's greens.
Birds were busy filling their bellies, one seed after another.
The sun came out briefly, enough to sparkle the white background.
Morning, winter shadows are longer, demanding a second look.
The grasses give way to the weight of the snow,
bending to form a tunnel. I wonder if Mr. Hasenpfeffer would consider such a place to hide from Mr. Snowy Owl who has been known to hide out in the loft of the barn~
The snows blew in from the Northwest, filling the branches fo the wreath that hangs by the deck door. Even the little perching bird was covered.
The snowfall this time was just a tease, nothing like our western neighbors received. Well over a foot was being shoveled off the paths to homes and barns. Better there than here....
at least this time.
For now, thanks for stopping by and
stay safe, stay warm and keep your hat on.

a beautiful way for winter to ease in to your area. :)
I do believe I like a little at a time. I would never survive a northern winter. I like snow that comes on Friday and disappears by Monday.
Your photos are great.
Very pretty all around your place. We ended up with about the same amount as you ... pretty but not too deep.
Just enough snow to shift me into that Christmas cookie baking mode!
Yeah ~
'love & hugs from afar'
Lookin' pretty there!
Same here, just a few inches. It was pretty to watch coming down.
oh, gorgeous photos... almost makes me homesick. Can't get homesick.... not yet... way too soon. But you enjoy it for me :)
PS LOVE, love, love the photo with the tall bleached-out grass!!
These are some great shots Dar. The night shots are amazing, I love them. It looks so Christmassy!!! I started singing a Carol.
Beautiful entry.
Love and HUgs from Florida where snow is illegal!
The quiet magic and blissful charm of a snow is enchanting. A lovely gift for the holidays. Your pictures are wonderful.
:)
I thought of you when hubby told me about the storm that started in the west and was headed your way. It moved further East this time giving our family in Maine about the same as you got...they had a good bit of ice mixed in with theirs. The snow on the lighted wreath is so pretty. We've had our first snow...the end of October...as a result of Hurricane Sandy. We had a foot or more of heavy wet snow and were without power for 6 days at our place and my father-in-law was without power for 9 days...some people going for as long as two full weeks without power. I'd be happy to call that our snow for the winter, but I doubt that will be the case. :-)
I was thinking - no matter what - even a small dusting of that beautiful snow or a large snowfall - life goes on with the critters doesn't it? So pretty. sandie
Beautiful scenes and very familiar as we had a similar event here in southeastern Minnesota two night ago...:)
