Seven Years Ago

I come across these pictures of one of our last Great Rainfall Years.
My sunflowers and squash grew leaps and bounds 7 years ago.
We are getting desperate for rain. Our water table is so low, that another year of drought will surly be devastating to the area. The trees are showing signs of stress, the ground is powder, and we can only pray it rains, rains, rains, and rains some more. How dry is it? Well, the old-timer down the road says the frogs are lining up at the pump for a drip and the creek is only running every other day. That's dry.
This sunflower towered 12 feet, saluting the sky. Praise the Lord.
The sunflower on the left is well over 16 ft. tall. My son is 6'6", to give prospective. It's been many a year since we have had a good crop of winter squash.
So, be a love, and pray for rain for us up north in the mid-WI. The southern part of the state does not seem to be doing as badly, but the rest of us are in need of a lot of praying to dampen things a bit. We will take all the moisture we can get. Our new well will get a real work-out watering my gardens this year. Let's hope it's deep enough to last til the drought has passed.
Enough of my griping, but I was just thinking of the gardening we need to do to sustain the shelves and freezers with this wonderful economy we are in. We shall reap what we sow., and be glad of it. We would love to have our spirits 'dampened.'
Bless Your Hearts and Have a Prosperous Year

We ceratinly know what a drought is. A few years ago our Catawba river that flows by Belmont is about a 1/4 mile wide. During our drought it became a creek. Now it flows full again, thank the Good LOrd. So you too will have prayers answered.

I love the photos, and especially the barn. 6'6", you don't grow 'em small up there.

I never thought of a drought up in that area, with as much water that is around. But our prayers are going up for you, lack of water hurts.
Love from NC,
Jack & Sherry

Oh Dar, If I could send you some of our rain, I would. We've had a great year for rain. However, we did have a drought a couple of years ago---and it was hard on everything--and US.

That may be the tallest Sunflower I have EVER seen.

I'll pray for RAIN for your area.
Hugs,
Betsy

Yup, that was one of my "living in Alaska" years so I missed seeing those TALL sunflowers. I also remember being shocked at how TALL Andy got those years I was way Up North!! Great pics and praying for rain ~ for you and me! "hugs" Sis and Happy Easter

I hope that you get rain soon. Our rivers and creeks are so swollen now. I wish that I could send you some. I can't wait to see what you have planned for your gardens. I got the gardening bug this year. I have plans for an edible garden by the back porch. I am so excited to get it done!

Dar,
I will be remembering your area of WI in prayer and asking the Lord to send rain. We've had periods of drought here before and it really is hard to make good gardens during those periods.

Loved seeing the picture of your sunflowers! And my goodness...those squash in front are surely "winners" too! Thanks for sharing with us.

I also wanted to take some time to thank you for the precious notes you've been leaving behind when you stop by to visit me. It helps me to know that I can be an encouragement to others.

Have a wonderful day in the Lord, my friend.
Dianna

I'm praying right now

But how do you grow such BIG sunflowers without critters eating them?

Wow those are cool sun flowers.
Thanks for coming by my page. My cholesterol was way high back in November. I started taking Mega Red Krill Oil capsules and also Bayer Heart Health Advantage. When I went back in February for another blood test, my total count was down about 30 points, my triglycerides were down 113 points and my bad cholesterol was down about 24 points. My doctor still was not happy. I've only seen him once. He started telling me to try all those things I'd tried before...flush niacin, red yeast rice, etc. I told him I have tried them and cannot tolerate them either. I told him I about the Krill and the Bayer and that I would continue exercising and trying to watch what I eat, but that I will indulge myself now and then. He didn't say anything about me going for another blood test. Have not heard from him since.
My husband went to him for a check up and found out that he has high b/p. The same doctor put him on b/p pills. That was back in December and the doctor has never had him come back to see if the pills are working. I'm beginning to think he is NOT a good doctor.

Sending out positive thoughts for many refreshing, life sustaining and puddle stomping rains(gotta have some fun lol)

Your sunflowers are magnificent. I love the old barn behind them too. It's Picture perfect like a painting for the wall.

Wishing you the rest of the week of refreshing rain each day except for one day of clear skies & sunshine on Easter.

I am a different computer, hopefully I can comment from this one.

I clicked to enlarge so I could see your son. He is very tall, it does give the sunflowers a different appearance with him standing with them. We had 2 years of drought, then the last 12 months have been overly wet.
